Julie Dexter | Kari Simmons | Moon Bossa

As you already know comparisons as in categories often do artist a grave injustice. With that said, when I was first introduced to the gifted songwriter Julie Dexter, her sound was described as being Neo Soul. Whatever you may, call it as I hear Julie wraps her voice, presence, and style around the core elements of British Soul groups like The Brand New Heavies, Basia, Incognito, and Soul To Soul.
On her latest project, Ms. Dexter teams up with her accomplished sidekick Khari Simmons for their sophomore collaboration together titled “Moon Bossa.” The beauty of this music is, it’s not your typical soul music by any means, I say this because urban music we hear in the US is primarily marketed to young demos, which has a tendency to sound the same therefore leaving old school music enthusiasts waiting in vain.
In this case, I’m delighted to say, the compatible duo Julie Dexter and Khari Simmons has captured the essence of the world music vibe on “Moon Bossa.” They’ve shaped, dipped, twisted, and stirred with a generous helping of soul, pop, and Brazilian accentuated by her fascinating jazz laced vocal style. Now, if you’re looking for music, that’s mature, hip, and soulful then “Moon Bossa” will indeed satisfy your taste in good music that definitely deserves your attention.
