Roland Vazquez | Quintet Live

With six previous solo projects tucked neatly under his belt, drummer extraordinaire Roland Vazquez sparkles his seventh time around. On this effort, with his enriched tonality he navigates diligently through a collection of pulsating Latin inspired jazz tunes like never before on “Quintet Live.”
While listening to “Quintet Live,” I found myself seduced by the polyrhythmic voice of Roland Vazquez, his sound glistens with excitement on nine exhilarating compositions featuring the savvy interplay of Walt Weiskopf (tenor), Mark Soskin (piano), Anthony Jackson (contrabass guitar), Ricardo Candelaria (percussion), and of course composer/leader/drummer Roland Vazquez.
Ironically, what I found fascinating about his new album is how it almost didn’t make it into production. Kudos to the engineers who were on hand in these live settings with their recording equipment, as Vazquez convincingly ask them to roll tape to record his quintet’s performances. Bingo, fabulous job by the crew! This record is not by consequence it was by design, and its purpose in fact could be considered one of the finest live jazz recordings in recent memory (?)
Blown away? Yes, this music unquestionably is an irresistible
masterpiece! On this session, with the help of his esteemed colleagues attached
his sound to an imprint of the seventies Afro-Latino vibe, which I’m quite sure
you’ll find the continuity of Roland Vazquez “Quintet Live” significant even in
today’s technological based environment. Yes, I’m encouraged as they surpass
expectation as they’re radiant sound is engulfed into a endless stream of
intense melodies, and multicolored rhythms, and cohesive Latin Jazz timbre
that’s suitable and accessible to anyone who’s seeking to embrace good music.
